Community Involvement
At Kindred Healthcare, our community involvement is consistent with our company's principles and with our mission of customer service and quality care.
Through the Kindred Foundation, the company maximizes resources to support worthwhile community activities in three categories – healthcare-related charities, employee education and mission-related research – giving our nursing centers and hospitals the ability to participate at a higher level in non-profit organizations they already support in their communities across the United States.
We have focused our efforts on developing strong partnerships with three key healthcare-related, non-profit organizations that are closely aligned with our business – the Alzheimer's Association, the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association.
These organizations have missions that are consistent with ours and through our involvement we can help them raise awareness about their important causes and aid these groups in funding research.
Since 2005, Kindred and our employees have contributed over $3.5 million to the Alzheimer's Association through participation in A Walk to End Alzheimer's. Each year, about 3,000 employees participate in more than 100 walks across the United States. In 2012, Kindred became a National Corporate Team Partner of the American Lung Association. This partnership signifies Kindred’s commitment to improving lung health for all Americans, and in advancing our shared goals. Through this partnership, Kindred Hospitals support the American Lung Association through participation in, fundraising for and sponsorship of their walks, cycling adventures and climbs around the country. We’ve always supported the Lung Association because their mission aligns so closely with ours, in improving lung health and preventing lung disease. This is important to the health of our patients, as well as the well-being of our employees. In addition, we have committed dollar-for-dollar matching funds for the hospitals that participate in the American Lung Association's events and for the hospitals and nursing centers that take part in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. The company also provides funds to each hospital to sponsor their local Heart Walk and American Lung Association events.
Kindred is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in every community we serve. We will nurture partnerships with these organizations and continue to grow our involvement.
