U.S. District Court Chief Judge Christina Reiss has approved additional actions to help educate claims processors and others on beneficiary eligibility for therapy. According to Kaiser Health News (KHN), the judge's ruling is another attempt to "correct a commonly held misconception that beneficiaries are eligible for coverage for physical and occupational therapy and other skilled care only if their health is improving."

The ruling requires the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) to have a new website that provides information on a related settlement from 2013 and clear instructions that improvement is not one of the criteria for coverage. CMS also must provide additional training to educate claims processors, appeals judges and others. The website and training must be completed by September 4, 2017.
