Kindred Selects Inovalon to Implement Data-Driven Healthcare Platform for Post-Acute Care Marketplace

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2016-- Kindred Healthcare, Inc. (“Kindred” or the “Company”) (NYSE:KND) today announced a strategic partnership with Inovalon (NASDAQ:INOV), a leading technology company providing advanced analytics and data-driven insights to the healthcare industry, and its subsidiary Avalere Health, to create a unique set of post-acute care benefits management tools and solutions.

The purpose of the partnership is to meet the growing demand among hospital systems, Accountable Care Organizations and managed care payors for care management and population health solutions as value and risk-based payment reforms begin to take hold. The strong relationship between the organizations will leverage Kindred’s continuum of post-acute care and growing care management capabilities with Inovalon’s cloud-based data analytics and Avalere’s expertise in healthcare strategy to manage the care and costs of patients from hospital to home. Specifically, Kindred, Inovalon and Avalere will create a unique set of data-based care management tools designed to risk stratify patients, help determine the most appropriate post-acute sites of service, develop evidence-based care pathways and outcomes, and establish cost-effective pricing models in order to position Kindred as a post-acute care benefits management partner with payors and hospital systems.

“Over the past several years Kindred has created a robust platform for integrated care and population health management by expanding our capacity to deliver the full continuum of post-acute care in local health care markets throughout the country,” said Benjamin A. Breier , Kindred’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Kindred’s growing capabilities in care management further position us as a valuable partner to manage the care and costs of patients across an episode of care. Our partnership with Inovalon and Avalere will significantly advance our efforts to become a post-acute benefits management company by combining our continuum with the power of Inovalon’s data, analytics and technology platforms to improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction as we reduce costs on behalf of payors and health systems alike.”

“Post-acute care is the fastest growing segment of healthcare in the United States and Kindred is the largest provider of these services,” said Keith Dunleavy , M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Inovalon. “As the trend toward quality and value-based care models increases, the importance of data-driven insights has never been more critical to success. We are excited to be working with Kindred, a leader in the post-acute care space, to support their goals within this important healthcare segment.”
