Kindred Hospital Melbourne Opens Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

MELBOURNE, FL (August 31, 2021) – Kindred Hospital Melbourne has opened a new rehabilitation unit inside the hospital. The acute rehabilitation unit (ARU) helps adults who have experienced a loss of function or disability due to injury or illness.

The 11-bed ARU features all private rooms for patients recovering from conditions that include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation and trauma.

An interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and other health professionals will design a treatment plan to help a patient restore lost ability and function. Intensive monitoring and therapy help patients regain skills more quickly in a safe, controlled environment. The goal is to support patients while they recover, so they can return home and resume normal activities.

Patients will receive a minimum of three hours of therapy each day for at least five days a week under the direction of a physiatrist, a doctor specialized in rehabilitation and physical medicine, and 24/7 nursing care. The rehabilitation unit provides services to Kindred Hospital patients as well as patients from other healthcare providers in the community.

“Adding dedicated acute-level rehabilitation units in our hospital sets Kindred apart,” said Mike Warrington, President of Kindred’s Hospital Division. “This new service will enable Kindred to provide a broader range of acute-level, physician-led rehabilitation care while avoiding the disruption of transferring a patient to a separate facility. This ARU allows us to provide greater access and enhanced capabilities, expertise, and clinical integration to patients requiring these rehabilitation services.”

The new units are managed and staffed by Kindred Hospital Rehabilitation Services, which delivers clinical success and outstanding patient outcomes for hospital-based programs nationwide. Kindred Hospital is looking for additional registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory therapists and case managers to fill job openings at the new unit. Many of these positions offer sign on bonuses. To learn more about available positions and apply, visit jobs.kindredhealthcare.com.
