Unfortunately, Jeff then developed additional complications, was placed on a ventilator and he then suffered a stroke. He remained in critical care at the facility for several weeks until he could be transferred to Kindred Hospital Indianapolis. On arrival, Jeff’s team of physicians, therapists and caregivers developed a care plan which included aggressive respiratory therapy. At the beginning of his stay, Jeff was not responsive, but during recovery, he became engaged with his team. He received a great deal of encouragement and support from his family and caregivers to help him reach his first milestone — successfully weaning from the ventilator. Jeff then cleared a swallowing test with help from his speech-language pathologist and started a regular diet. His rehab team worked with Jeff to help him regain mobility and independence, meeting all the goals set for his recovery.

“I am looking forward to being able to get back to being myself,” Jeff shared. “My family and I are grateful for all the hard work the staff at Kindred has done for me and now I’m ready for the next step of my recovery.”

After a prolonged stay at the acute care facility he was transferred to Kindred Hospital for continuation of medical management and rehabilitation.

When he first arrived at Kindred, Jared was still very weak and required full assistance from his caregivers. He began to work with his physical and occupational therapists while still receiving dialysis and quickly started to make progress. His kidney injury was resolved and he was able to discontinue dialysis treatments, and he went from being completely bedridden to getting up and walking short distances. He also recovered his independence over the tasks of daily living and when he was discharged Jared expressed gratitude to the caregivers who helped him overcome so much so quickly.

“I can’t give my occupational and physical therapists enough praise,” Jared affirmed. “It was wonderful to be able to trust them – they listened to me and were able to get me up on my feet again in the parallel bars. I loved the rehab gym, and all the staff in every department are very polite and very nice. I can honestly say that all the people here are unbelievably great – something that doesn’t happen very often. All I can say is wow!”

At the beginning of her stay at Kindred, Janet was unable to speak as she still had the breathing tube in place to ensure her airway remained unblocked. Her team of caregivers oversaw her recovery and Janet responded rapidly to the treatments her respiratory team administered and she also made great gains with her physical and occupational therapists.

By the time Janet was discharged from Kindred to go home with her fiancée's sister, Janet was able to walk, talk, eat and take care of all her daily needs. “Everyone here at Kindred cracked me up!” Janet expressed. “We sure laughed a lot and the staff here are super friendly. I’m looking forward to getting back to working out, gardening and making my famous meatloaf.”

His multidisciplinary team created a treatment plan and set out to help Clark regain his health and quality of life. The first step was to help him wean from the medication he had been taking to manage his pain. As his mental faculties returned, he began to make excellent progress in rehab therapy and he improved the strength in his legs and arms. Soon he was able to start walking with a rolling walker and needed less assistance and continued to work on his balance and getting stronger.

At the time of his discharge to a rehab facility, Clark was able to walk on his own without a walker and required only stand-by assistance. His plans are to continue working to regain his balance and improve his walking gait, cognitive conditioning, and extremity conditioning. Prior to leaving Kindred, Clark said, "I'm looking forward to getting back to work again."
