Palliative Care

Palliative care may be the right choice for you if you have a chronic illness, need relief from suffering, and require help to improve your quality of life and regain the ability to complete your daily activities.

Palliative care is about making you as comfortable and peaceful as possible, with pain management and psychological support. We do this by placing an emphasis on communication between our interdisciplinary team of medical experts and you and your loved ones.

Many people confuse the benefits of palliative care with hospice. They are not the same. Unlike hospice care, palliative care does not discontinue curative treatment and does not require your illness to be end-stage or terminal.

You may benefit from palliative care services if you have:

  • A chronic, progressive pulmonary disorder, renal disease, congestive heart failure or a progressive neurological condition
  • Cancer requiring intense treatment
  • A history of hospitalizations
  • A recurring infection or non-healing wound
  • Psychosocial, emotional and/or spiritual distress
  • Pain or sever discomfort
  • Sudden and significant weight loss
  • Repeated falls
  • Uncertainty about treatment options or goals of care

Our palliative care services include:

  • 24-hour nursing care
  • A support system for psychological and spiritual care
  • Help navigating the healthcare system
  • A team to help with pain control
