Make a Plan

Set goals that are realistic and personally meaningful. Form a plan and stick to it. Research tells us that if you have a plan, you are more likely to make it a priority. The key is taking your first step.

Remember, always check with your doctor before you begin a new exercise program.

Use the Buddy System

Staying active with a buddy or attending a class with others gives you the social support needed to help you stick with it!

Make Activity an Everyday Priority

Commit to doing something every day. Even 10 or 15 minutes a day makes a big difference! Remember, small changes in your life can have a big impact.

Research tells us that moving helps our balance. Staying active improves your mood, your confidence, and overall energy levels.

Master Your Medicines

Learn about your medications, understand what they do, and when to take them. Mastering your medications will help you feel better and can help alleviate side effects like dizziness.

Schedule Regular Eye Exams

Have your eyesight checked yearly by your doctor. If you wear glasses, have your glasses checked at least every two years by your optometrist.

Wear Shoes That Work

Select and wear shoes that are comfortable and fit properly.

When buying new shoes, look for these features:

  • Rubber-soled, slip-resistant
  • Low-heeled with ample toe room
  • Cushioned for shock absorption
  • Laces or Velcro (they work best)

Make Your Home a Safe Haven
