As reported in October 2013, PEPPER reports were issued last fall by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to highlight areas in which facilities are at risk for improper Medicare reimbursement. The reports do not identify improper payments but outline areas for potential payment abuse for each facility by analyzing outliers in data gathered between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2012.

Your PEPPER report can help you identify trends that may require attention. However, according to Long Term Care Leader, the blog of the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, just 49% of 14,961 SNF PEPPER reports have been accessed as of June 30th.
