Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) introduced the Medicare Access to Rehabilitation Services Act (H.R. 775) last week in support of a permanent solution to the therapy cap issue that threatens patient access to essential care. The Therapy Cap Coalition, of which Kindred Healthcare and RehabCare are members, commends these congressmen and woman for their leadership on the therapy cap issue. Arbitrary caps can limit access to necessary treatment as well as hinder preventative care. A lack of understanding of the therapy caps by patients and their families often leads a patient to prematurely discontinue treatment out of concern that payment for care may be limited.

Completing the H.R. 775 legislation before March 31 is essential to end the years-long pattern of enacting annual extensions that compromise care for one million Medicare beneficiaries at risk. Our team continues to advocate for a full repeal of the therapy cap through our activities on the Hill and engagement of our dedicated RehabCare Advocacy Network. We will continue to keep our readers updated on the therapy cap issue in 2015.
