Acute Rehabilitation Unit Management

Many hospitals prefer to maintain ownership of inpatient rehabilitation but seek to partner with an expert to manage the operation. That expert is often Kindred Hospital Rehabilitation Services (KHRS), the largest contract manager of hospital-based acute rehabilitation programs in the country.

Approximately 100 hospitals in 27 states partner with KHRS to contract manage existing acute rehabilitation units or open new ARUs within their facilities.

We grew to become the industry leader in large part due to the value and expertise we bring to hospitals, our deep knowledge of regulations and the positive clinical outcomes we deliver to patients.  We strive for a seamless transition and implementation of ARU management, with minimal disruption. The improvements that occur simply represent the hospital’s commitment to improving the service line, as we are silent partners.

Hospitals want to partner with a proven rehabilitation management and services provider that can help patients recover and get home quickly from any of a number of conditions, including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation and trauma.

We not only provide our hospital partners with continuous quality improvement in patient outcomes, but we also collaborate with them to assure regulatory compliance, physician engagement and optimal financial performance. Our services include the following:

  • Onsite/regional management
  • Staffing
  • Billing and coding oversight
  • Compliance management
  • Analysis and projections
  • Reimbursement expertise
  • Education and training
  • Denials management services

Onsite/regional management

Our management and education option includes site-specific management and other support staff, such as an admissions coordinator and clinical liaisons, who work with referral sources to educate and direct the right patients to the right setting at the right time.

Our full staffing management model provides all management and education services plus therapy staff (physical, occupational and speech therapists) and clinical staff (case manager, social worker).

We start with a continuum of a flexible portfolio of service offerings designed to meet your needs, your business model and the scope of services you desire. All offerings include the development and review of a quarterly clinical and operational business plan to achieve the highest level of quality and operational performance.
