Kindred to Offer Anti-Psychotic Drug Seminar

By Sophia Kroon

Kindred Healthcare is inviting all to attend a WebEx seminar focused on increasing knowledge of the appropriate use of anti-psychotic drugs in Post-Acute and Long-Term Care.

The one-hour seminar, led by Fred Feinsod, M.D., C.M.D. and Marc Rothman, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, and Senior Vice President of Kindred Healthcare, will equip participants with the proper knowledge of the use of anti-psychotic drugs. At the seminar’s end, participants will be capable of:

  2. Listing diagnoses of major mental illness which are acceptable for prescribing anti-psychotic medications in LTC families.
  3. Listing non-pharmacological interventions that may reduce (or resolve) psychotic and/or agitated behaviors in demented elderly patients.
  4. Defining an “unnecessary medication” according to guidelines used by state surveyors of nursing facilities.
  5. Defining Gradual Dose Reduction (GDR) and enumerating the federally mandated schedule for GDR with anti-psychotic medications, sleeping medications, and anti-depressants.
