American Lung Association Report Hopes to Clear the Air

By Kindred Healthcare

americanlungThe American Lung Association (ALA) released its 15th annual State of the Air report. The data is compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and analyzed by the ALA with the purpose of educating people about the air they breathe and how they can work to make air cleaner for better health.

“All of us – everyone in every family – have the right to healthy air.” – Harold Wimmer, National President and CEO of the American Lung Association.

Kindred is proud to be a National Corporate Team Partner of the American Lung Association. This partnership signifies Kindred’s commitment to improving lung health for all Americans, and in advancing our shared goals. Many of our residents and patients are living with complex respiratory disease such as COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma and other conditions. Many of these conditions can be affected by air quality. The ALA urges people to pay attention to forecasts for high air pollution days to know when to take precautions. The ALA’s State of the Air app can be downloaded to phones for updates on local air quality and alerts.

Air pollution remains a pervasive health threat. You probably know someone on the list below who faces a higher risk from air pollution (maybe including you!):
• infants, children, teenagers and older adults,
• anyone with lung diseases like asthma or COPD,
• people with heart disease or diabetes,
• people with low incomes, and
• anyone who works or exercises outdoors.
