Visitor Information
For your safety, your loved one and all others in our hospital, we ask all visitors to:
- Get a visitor’s pass at the Information Desk when you arrive. We recommend limiting visitors to two at any one time as to not overwhelm your loved one and our care team. Visitor passes are valid only for the date and area displayed and we ask that you please wear them at all times while inside the hospital. Please return your visitor’s pass to the Information Desk when you leave.
- Check with the patient’s nurse for special restrictions that they may request based on your loved one’s care plan.
- Keep noise to a minimum.
- To avoid congestion in the hallways, please stay in your loved ones room while you visit.
- We are a tobacco-free hospitals. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the hospital. It is a violation of the Smoke-free Illinois Act.
Visiting Hours
General visiting hours for Kindred - Chicago Lakeshore are daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Flexibility in hours may be available in some cases and should be discussed with the nursing supervisor or an administrative representative. Please limit the number of visitors to no more than two at a time in your loved ones room. Please have all other visitors wait in the main lobby until other visitors leave. Be aware that we may ask that you to wait outside loved ones room while care is being provided.
Visiting the High Acuity Unit (HAU)
Visitors to the HAU are asked to limit visits to 15 minutes, in order to allow adequate rest for their loved one.
Visiting with Children
Children under the age of 12 are not permitted on the units, however they are welcome to wait in common or family waiting areas. Children must be supervised at all times in order to ensure their safety and the safety of our patients.
Infection Control
We ask that all visitors observe general hygiene practices when entering and leaving patient rooms. This includes disinfecting hands using the sanitizer dispensers conveniently placed around the facility.
For visitors of patients who are under special infection-control precautions or isolation, please read the isolation signs, check with the patient’s nurse, and make sure you understand and cooperate with the required precautions.
Please refrain from visiting if you have a cough, runny nose and/or congestion, sore throat, body aches, unusual weakness or tiredness, fever, rash, open sores, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or exposure to any communicable diseases such as chicken pox, measles or mumps.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria is located on the first floor and is available to all visitors.
- Breakfast is served Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Lunch is served daily from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Vending machines and complimentary beverages are available throughout the day in the cafeteria.
Parking and Security
Free parking is available in the lot adjacent (north) to the facility. Handicapped parking spaces are available. The parking lot is secured, so please ask for a token at the reception desk in the main lobby. Security and safety of our patients, families and staff are a key element at this facility. Because of that, all doors are locked after 8 p.m. Please use the doorbell located at the north entrance for after-hours entry. The security staff will provide escorts to and from cars upon request.
Family Involvement
Family members are welcome to request a biweekly patient conference with clinical staff in order to discuss a loved one’s current condition, progress and to answer questions. Patient/family conferences may be scheduled by calling case management at 773.381.8175.
