Her journey was not as easy as expected, especially during the first two weeks during which she experienced significant fluctuations in her recovery. However, Donella began to recover and regained her great sense of humor and drive that made her a beloved person by all who would encounter her. Every day that Donella made gains she would become more determined and could not wait for the next therapy session. By the end of her stay at Kindred, Donella only required standby assistance and she was eating a regular diet. She was discharged to her home with home health services to continue her recovery.

“Weeks later when I awoke in Kindred Hospital I learned that I had been on life support for several weeks – I was in very bad shape.” Not long after his arrival, Doug was successfully weaned from the ventilator and began his journey to recovery with physical and occupational therapy. “I can't say enough about the care I received at Kindred. All of the nurses, therapists and aides were top notch, and I just want to give a special shout out to Dana – my rehab therapist – who even came to visit me after I discharged to the nursing home to continue my therapy.” Doug says he is also blessed as his family that stood by him and never gave up on his recovery; “Now I am home and continue to get stronger every day. I’m looking forward to getting back to fishing and driving again.”

While at Kindred, Heather made a miraculous recovery. She was able to wean from the ventilator, regain her strength and mobility and participate in daily rehab and occupational therapy. Heather credits her recovery to the great care the nursing team provided and she and her family are very thankful to Dr. Cooley and Dr. Ojo, and to everyone on the rehabilitation team. Heather was discharged from Kindred to her home and she is very happy to be cooking meals again for her children!

He was admitted to Kindred Hospital to continue therapy and rehabilitation. "I believe that everyone at Kindred Lima is awesome and works there because it's their purpose – their mission" Derek shared. “I want to say a special thank you to Dr. Ojo, and RNs Meagan and Octavia Peterson for the great care I received. I am blessed to be alive today, through a combination of divine intervention and the unconditional love of family, friends and caregivers.” Derek was discharged from Kindred Hospital to his home and was able to walk out on his own. “I am so grateful to everyone who assisted in my recovery. I hope to fulfill my life's purpose!” Derek said.

My stay here lasted for a month and in that time I was successfully weaned from the ventilator, had my tracheostomy removed, and began therapy. The entire staff at Kindred never let me quit. Thanks to their diligence and the support of my family and friends, I am back home and continue to gain strength. I continue to do therapy close to home and am back to watching my great grandchildren, whom I adore.” Pam extended a special thank you to Samantha, Becky, and all the ICU nurses for the care she received. “If I ever need long-term hospital care in the future I would definitely return to Kindred” Pam said.

Scott is thankful for Dr's Ojo, Kato, Beraki and Pere' and credits them with saving his life: "Angie and Doug were particularly helpful and inspired me to keep going, and my son gave me the willpower to get back home. I was able to wean off the ventilator while I was at Kindred and I discharged home after my stay. I am glad to be home and to be able to get back to work."

Getting Back To A Normal Life
Susan began her recovery at Kindred Hospital Lima after an extensive heart valve surgery. Many unexpected complications after that surgery left her with a trach, on the ventilator and very weak.

Over the course of a few weeks at Kindred, she was successfully weaned from life support and began rehab. While hesitant to ask for help on the little things she used to be capable of, Susan recalls how, “no one at Kindred ever made me feel like a burden and they were always there to help and encourage me”. Susan’s health improved greatly and she was discharged to a lower-level of care to continue her rehab and later returned home. Today, Susan is back working and enjoying spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Lofton came to Kindred Hospital Lima for continued cardiac care following open heart surgery.

He chose Kindred Hospital Lima because his father had been a patient at Kindred and received great care. After the surgery he attributed his successful recovery to the excellent care and compassion from the Kindred staff. Lofton is home now and looking forward to going back to work. He's glad to be walking without a walker and is able to attend church again.

Linda came to Kindred Hospital Lima after suffering a brain aneurysm. At the time of her arrival, she was admitted to the intensive care unit and was on ventilator support.

During her time at Kindred, Linda was able to be successfully weaned from the ventilator and she surprised everyone when she woke up from a coma. Linda couldn't talk at first but her husband will never forget when he walked in the room and she said, "That’s my husband." Linda attributed her recovery to many people at Kindred, including the nurses, physicians and rehab team. We are so proud of her and wish her all the best!
