Corey Cooper Named Executive Director For New Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute

US Air Force veteran, with background in pharmacy and rehabilitation, to lead new joint venture facility 

MORRISTOWN, NJ and LOUISVILLE, KY – OCTOBER 2018 – Atlantic Health System and Kindred Healthcare today announced that Corey Cooper has been named Executive Director for the new Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute, a state-of-the-art comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility set to open in 2019.

Cooper will oversee the facility, which is a joint venture between Atlantic Health System and Kindred Healthcare. The organizations broke ground on the facility in May. As of October 1, Cooper oversees operations of acute rehabilitation at Atlantic Rehabilitation’s current home on Mount Kemble Avenue in Morristown.

The building, once completed, will provide a new, modern home for the inpatient rehabilitation services and programs that continue to be offered at the Mount Kemble Avenue location.

Cooper has more than 12 years of health care experience, most recently serving as regional director of operations of post-acute care and inpatient rehabilitation for Community Health Systems (CHS) based in Franklin, Tennessee. During his tenure with CHS, Cooper led the operation of 15 acute rehabilitation programs, including business development, financial review/performance and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining CHS, Cooper served as a Corporate Director of Pharmacy with oversight of 25 long-term acute care hospital and acute rehabilitation directors of pharmacy at Post-Acute Medical LLC. (PAM). As a member of the PAM corporate team, Cooper aided in the successful opening of several new hospitals, including three new acute rehabilitation hospitals, as well as several acquisitions.

While working as a clinician, Corey spent three years working in the area of hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant at Brooke Army Medical Center (now named San Antonio Military Medical Center) in San Antonio, Texas.  He is a patient-centered leader and administrator, focused on providing value for all patients and the community.  

Cooper developed the foundation for his leadership while proudly serving for eight years in the United States Air Force, where he was assigned to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Cooper earned an Associate’s degree in applied science from the Community College of the Air Force. He attended the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, earning a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.

The new Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute—a two-story, 38-bed comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation facility located in Madison, NJ —will provide patient-focused care dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals, with intensive specialized rehabilitation services for patients who have experienced a loss of function from an injury or illness.

The facility will feature all-private rooms, a secure, acquired brain injury unit with private dining and therapy gym, large interdisciplinary gyms, a therapeutic courtyard with golf, basketball and varied surfaces, a dialysis suite, and will offer specialty programs dedicated to neuro, stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and amputation. The building will also include a transitional living apartment designed to simulate a residential apartment, to prepare patients for their daily living tasks before they are discharged home.

It will be built on approximately 46,000 square feet of land, part of a 40-acre parcel of land owned by Atlantic Health System that will be developed into a campus for health services. The property is located off Route 124 in Madison within the Giralda Farms campus, once the former estate of Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge, and is now considered one of the most prestigious office parks in the metropolitan area.

The building was designed by Earl Swensson Associates, and will be built by Holt Construction.
